Heart Rate Based Calorie Burn Calculator for Known VO2max

Calculate Your Exercise Energy Expenditure

Your known maximal oxygen uptake.
Heart rate during exercise.
Your estimated or measured maximum heart rate.
Your resting heart rate.
Your current body weight.
Total time spent exercising.

Estimate your calorie burn during exercise accurately using your current heart rate, known VO2max, and body weight. This essential tool helps you understand your energy expenditure, vital for effective fitness planning and weight management strategies. Achieve your health goals with precise data!

Formula:

To calculate your estimated calorie burn (Kcal), we first determine your estimated oxygen uptake during exercise (VO₂_exercise), then total oxygen uptake (VO₂_L/min), and finally total Kcal burned.

Step 1: Calculate VO₂_exercise (mL/kg/min)

VO₂_exercise = ( (HRcurrent - HRrest) / (HRmax - HRrest) ) * (VO2max - VO₂_rest) + VO₂_rest

Step 2: Calculate Total VO₂_L/min (L/min)

VO₂_L/min = (VO₂_exercise * Weightkg) / 1000

Step 3: Calculate Total Kcal Burned

Kcal Burned = VO₂_L/min * Durationmin * 5

  • HRcurrent: Current Heart Rate during exercise (beats per minute)
  • HRrest: Resting Heart Rate (beats per minute)
  • HRmax: Maximum Heart Rate (beats per minute)
  • VO2max: Maximal Oxygen Uptake (mL/kg/min)
  • VO₂_rest: Resting Oxygen Uptake (typically 3.5 mL/kg/min, equivalent to 1 MET)
  • Weightkg: Body Weight (kilograms)
  • Durationmin: Exercise Duration (minutes)
  • 5: Approximate calories burned per liter of oxygen consumed
