The Cycling Wattage (Power) is calculated using the following formula, considering rolling resistance, aerodynamic drag, and gravitational forces:

Power (Watts) = Prolling + Paero + Pgravity

Where:

  • Prolling = Crr × Mtotal × g × V
  • Paero = 0.5 × ρ × CdA × V3
  • Pgravity = Mtotal × g × sin(arctan(Gradient/100)) × V

Variables Explained:
  • Crr: Coefficient of Rolling Resistance (dimensionless)
  • Mtotal: Total Mass (Rider Weight + Bike Weight) in kg
  • g: Acceleration due to gravity (9.81 m/s2)
  • V: Speed in m/s
  • ρ: Air Density (kg/m3)
  • CdA: Coefficient of Drag × Frontal Area (m2)
  • Gradient: Road incline in percentage (%)
