Utilize our RCRI Calculator to accurately determine the Revised Cardiac Risk Index for patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. This essential tool helps healthcare professionals assess perioperative cardiac risk based on key clinical predictors, aiding in informed decision-making and patient management for a safer surgical outcome.
Formula:
The RCRI score is a simple sum of points, where each present risk factor adds 1 point:
- High-risk surgery (e.g., intraperitoneal, intrathoracic, suprainguinal vascular surgery): +1 point
- History of ischemic heart disease (e.g., MI, angina, Q-waves on ECG, positive stress test, current nitrate use): +1 point
- History of congestive heart failure (CHF): +1 point
- History of cerebrovascular disease (CVD) (e.g., stroke, TIA): +1 point
- Preoperative treatment with insulin: +1 point
- Preoperative serum creatinine > 2.0 mg/dL (or 177 µmol/L): +1 point
RCRI Score = Sum of all present risk factors
The total score correlates with the estimated risk of major cardiac events (cardiac death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal cardiac arrest):
- 0 points (Class I): 0.4%
- 1 point (Class II): 0.9%
- 2 points (Class III): 6.6%
- ≥3 points (Class IV): 11.0%
