Utilize our Sepsis Calculator to quickly assess patient status based on the Sepsis-3 criteria. This tool helps clinicians calculate the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score and quick SOFA (qSOFA) score, aiding in the early identification and management of sepsis and septic shock. Improve patient outcomes with timely diagnosis and effective clinical decision-making.
Formula:
The Sepsis-3 definition identifies sepsis as a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Organ dysfunction is indicated by an acute increase of ≥2 points in the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, consequent to the infection.
The quick SOFA (qSOFA) score is a rapid bedside screening tool, positive if ≥2 of the following are present:
- Respiratory Rate (RR) ≥ 22 breaths/min
- Altered Mental Status (Glasgow Coma Scale < 15)
- Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP) ≤ 100 mmHg
The SOFA score is calculated by summing points (0-4) across six organ systems:
- Respiration: PaO2/FiO2 ratio
- Coagulation: Platelet count (x103/µL)
- Liver: Bilirubin level (mg/dL)
- Cardiovascular: Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) and vasopressor use
- Central Nervous System: Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)
- Renal: Creatinine level (mg/dL) and urine output (mL/24h)
