Rule of Nines Calculator: Estimate Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) for Burns

Calculate Burn Percentage with the Rule of Nines

The Rule of Nines is primarily for adults. For children, a modified Lund-Browder chart is often used.

Select Burned Body Regions (Adult Percentages)

Use our Rule of Nines Calculator to quickly and accurately estimate the Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) affected by burns in adults. Essential for initial burn management and fluid resuscitation calculations.

Formula:

The Rule of Nines estimates Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) affected by burns by assigning percentages to different body regions for adults:

  • Head & Neck: 9%
  • Each Arm: 9%
  • Anterior Trunk: 18%
  • Posterior Trunk: 18%
  • Each Leg: 18%
  • Perineum: 1%
The total TBSA is the sum of percentages for all burned regions selected.
