Accurately calculate the ABCD2 score to assess short-term stroke risk after a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). This essential clinical tool helps healthcare professionals quickly evaluate patient prognosis based on age, blood pressure, clinical features, duration of symptoms, and diabetes status.
Formula:
The ABCD2 score is a summation of points assigned to five clinical features:
- Age: ≥ 60 years = 1 point
- Blood Pressure: Systolic ≥ 140 mmHg or Diastolic ≥ 90 mmHg = 1 point
- Clinical Features of TIA: Unilateral weakness = 2 points, Speech disturbance without weakness = 1 point
- Duration of Symptoms: ≥ 60 minutes = 2 points, 10-59 minutes = 1 point, < 10 minutes = 0 points
- Diabetes: Yes = 1 point
ABCD2 Score = Age points + Blood Pressure points + Clinical Features points + Duration points + Diabetes points
