Noise Pollution Calculator: Combine Multiple Sound Sources (dB)

Calculate Combined Noise Levels (Decibels)

Decibel level of the first sound source.
Decibel level of the second sound source.
Optional: Decibel level of the third sound source.
Optional: Decibel level of the fourth sound source.
Optional: Decibel level of the fifth sound source.

Combined Noise Level Result

The estimated total combined sound level from the provided sources is: dB

Note: This calculation assumes incoherent sound sources (e.g., different types of noise).

Easily calculate the total decibel level from multiple noise sources with our free online Noise Pollution Calculator. Understand the cumulative impact of environmental noise on health and wellbeing. Quickly determine combined sound pressure levels for better noise assessment. Get accurate results for different sound environments.

Formula:

The total sound pressure level (Ltotal) from multiple incoherent sound sources is calculated using the following formula:

Ltotal = 10 × log10 ( Σ 10(Li / 10) )

Where:

  • Ltotal = The total combined sound level in decibels (dB).
  • Li = The decibel level of each individual sound source.
  • Σ = The summation symbol, meaning you add up all the values for 10(Li / 10).
  • log10 = The base-10 logarithm.

This formula accounts for the logarithmic nature of the decibel scale, meaning sound levels do not simply add arithmetically.
