Mask vs. No Mask Calculator: Assess COVID-19 Transmission Risk

COVID-19 Mask Risk Assessment Form

Understand the potential impact of mask-wearing on COVID-19 transmission with our interactive calculator. Compare risks for various scenarios, including interaction duration and ventilation. Empower yourself with data to make informed decisions about your health and safety in different environments.

Formula:

Our calculator estimates potential transmission risk based on key factors: interaction duration (T), mask usage (M), environment ventilation (V), proximity (P), and activity level (A). While complex viral transmission involves many variables, the general principle of risk can be simplified as:

Risk Score ≈ (T × Myour × Mother × V × P × A)

Where:
  • T: Interaction Time (longer duration increases risk)
  • Myour: Your Mask Factor (higher value for no mask, lower for N95)
  • Mother: Other Person's Mask Factor (higher value for no mask, lower for N95)
  • V: Environment Ventilation Factor (higher value for poorly-ventilated, lower for outdoors)
  • P: Proximity Factor (higher value for close, lower for far)
  • A: Activity Level Factor (higher value for heavy breathing/singing, lower for resting)
