DNA Copies = Total DNA Mass (ng)(Genome Size (bp) × Mass of One Base Pair (ng/bp))

  • Total DNA Mass (ng): The total amount of DNA in nanograms you are quantifying.
  • Genome Size (bp): The approximate size of one haploid genome in base pairs for your organism.
  • Mass of One Base Pair (ng/bp): A constant representing the average mass of one double-stranded DNA base pair, approximately 1.096 × 10-12 ng/bp. This value is derived from the average molecular weight of a dsDNA base pair (≈660 g/mol) divided by Avogadro's number.
