Rank-biserial, Mann-Whitney Correlation Calculation
Formula:
Rank-biserial r = f - u
Mann-Whitney r = 1 - (2U / n1×n2)
where,
f - proportion of pairs favorable to the hypothesis (effect size),
u - proportion that is unfavorable,
n1, n2 - favor pairs,
r - rank correlation
Example:
Consider the example, where hares run faster than tortoises in 80 of 100 pairs. The common effect size is 80%, so the correlation of rank-biserial is (80% - 10%), and the rank-biserial r = 0.70.
