Easily calculate the vapor pressure of water (saturation pressure) at a specific temperature with our free online tool. This calculator uses a well-established empirical formula to provide accurate results for various scientific and engineering applications, including meteorology, physical chemistry, and chemical processes. Understand how temperature impacts water's phase change.
Formula:
The calculator uses an empirical formula (Tetens' formula approximation) to determine the saturation vapor pressure of water based on temperature:
P = P₀ * exp((17.27 * T) / (T + 237.3))
- P = Saturation Vapor Pressure (in hPa, kPa, or mmHg)
- P₀ = Reference saturation vapor pressure at 0°C (approx. 6.1078 hPa)
- T = Temperature in degrees Celsius (°C)
- exp() = Exponential function (ex)
This formula is widely used for temperatures between 0°C and 50°C, offering good accuracy for typical atmospheric conditions, and provides reasonable estimates for a broader range (-30°C to 100°C).
