Accurately determine the True Position error of a feature using our online calculator. Essential for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), this tool helps evaluate the accuracy of manufactured parts by comparing actual vs. nominal coordinates in 2D or 3D. Improve your quality control and precision engineering processes.
Formula:
True Position Formula
The True Position error represents the maximum permissible deviation of a feature's center from its theoretically exact (basic) position. It is calculated as the diameter of the cylindrical or spherical tolerance zone, derived from the X, Y, and optionally Z deviations:
True Position Error (Diameter) = 2 * √((Xactual - Xnominal)2 + (Yactual - Ynominal)2 + (Zactual - Znominal)2)
Where:
- Xactual, Yactual, Zactual: The measured coordinates of the feature's center.
- Xnominal, Ynominal, Znominal: The basic (theoretically exact) coordinates defining the true position.
Note: For 2D calculations, enter values only for X and Y coordinates; Z-coordinate fields can be left blank.
