Triathlon Training Calculator: Optimize Your Heart Rate Training Zones

Calculate Your Personalized Triathlon HR Training Zones

Enter your age in years (1-100).
Measure upon waking, before activity (beats per minute).

Your Personalized Triathlon HR Training Zones

Based on your input:

  • Estimated Max Heart Rate (MHR): bpm
  • Heart Rate Reserve (HRR): bpm

Personalized Training Zones:

Zone Intensity Heart Rate Range (bpm) Training Benefit
Zone 1 50-60% Very light warm-up/recovery
Zone 2 60-70% Aerobic endurance, fat burning
Zone 3 70-80% Aerobic power, tempo training
Zone 4 80-90% Anaerobic threshold, speed endurance
Zone 5 90-100% Maximal effort, short intervals

Always consult a medical professional or certified coach before starting any new training program.

Unlock your triathlon potential! Use our Triathlon Training Calculator to determine personalized heart rate training zones (Karvonen method) for swimming, cycling, and running. Optimize your workouts, improve endurance, and boost race performance efficiently. Plan smarter, train harder, race faster!

Formula:

This calculator utilizes the widely accepted Karvonen method to determine your personalized heart rate training zones. These zones are crucial for optimizing your triathlon training across swimming, cycling, and running, ensuring you train at the right intensity for your goals.

  • Estimated Maximum Heart Rate (MHR): Calculated as 220 - Your Age. This is a general estimate.
  • Heart Rate Reserve (HRR): The difference between your Estimated MHR and your Resting Heart Rate (RHR). Formula: HRR = MHR - RHR.
  • Target Heart Rate (THR) for Training Zones: Calculated using your HRR and a specific intensity percentage (I) for each zone. Formula: THR = (HRR × I) + RHR.

The calculator will provide ranges for the following common training zones:

  • Zone 1 (Very Light): 50-60% of HRR. Ideal for warm-up and active recovery.
  • Zone 2 (Light/Aerobic): 60-70% of HRR. Excellent for building aerobic endurance and fat burning.
  • Zone 3 (Moderate/Tempo): 70-80% of HRR. Improves aerobic power and stamina for sustained efforts.
  • Zone 4 (Hard/Threshold): 80-90% of HRR. Targets your anaerobic threshold, crucial for race pace.
  • Zone 5 (Max Effort): 90-100% of HRR. For short, high-intensity intervals to improve speed and power.
