Accurately determine corrected serum sodium levels with our online Sodium Correction Calculator. Essential for healthcare professionals, this tool helps adjust measured sodium in the presence of hyperglycemia, accounting for osmotic shifts. Quickly understand the impact of high glucose on sodium readings and ensure precise patient assessment.
Formula:
The calculator uses the following formula to adjust serum sodium for hyperglycemia, specifically when glucose levels are above 100 mg/dL:
Corrected Sodium (mEq/L) = Measured Serum Sodium (mEq/L) + 0.016 × (Serum Glucose (mg/dL) - 100)
- Measured Serum Sodium: The current serum sodium level reported in mEq/L.
- Serum Glucose: The current blood glucose level in mg/dL.
- 0.016: A coefficient representing the approximate decrease in serum sodium for every 100 mg/dL increase in glucose above 100 mg/dL. If Serum Glucose ≤ 100 mg/dL, no correction is applied.
