Smog Calculator: How Many Cigarettes Do You Inhale from Air Pollution?

Calculate Your Air Pollution Exposure in Cigarette Equivalents

Average PM2.5 concentration in your environment.
Total hours exposed to this PM2.5 level.

Uncover the hidden cost of air pollution with our Smog Calculator. Easily convert PM2.5 exposure into an equivalent number of cigarettes inhaled, helping you visualize the real health impact of the air you breathe. Understand your risk and make informed decisions about air quality and your well-being.

Formula:

Equivalent Cigarettes = (PM2.5 Concentration × Exposure Duration) / 528

  • PM2.5 Concentration (µg/m³): The average concentration of fine particulate matter in the air you're exposed to.
  • Exposure Duration (hours): The total number of hours you've spent exposed to that particular PM2.5 level.
  • 528: A simplified constant derived from the estimation that 22 µg/m³ of PM2.5 for 24 hours is equivalent to smoking one cigarette (22 × 24 = 528).
