Slugging Percentage Formula
The Slugging Percentage (SLG) is a baseball statistic that measures the hitting productivity of a batter. It represents the total number of bases a player records per at-bat, giving more weight to extra-base hits.
Formula:
SLG = Total Bases / At-Bats
Where Total Bases = (1 × Singles) + (2 × Doubles) + (3 × Triples) + (4 × Home Runs)
Variables Explained:
- Singles (1B): Hits where the batter safely reaches first base.
- Doubles (2B): Hits where the batter safely reaches second base.
- Triples (3B): Hits where the batter safely reaches third base.
- Home Runs (HR): Hits where the batter safely rounds all bases to score.
- At-Bats (AB): The number of plate appearances, excluding walks, hit-by-pitches, sacrifices, and defensive interference.
