Formula:
The number of shiplap boards required is determined by the total area to be covered, the effective coverage area of a single board, and an allowance for waste. The basic formula is:
Number of Boards = ( (Wall Height × Wall Width) / (Board Length × (Exposed Board Height / 12)) ) × (1 + Waste Percentage)
- Wall Height: The total vertical measurement of the area you want to cover with shiplap (in feet).
- Wall Width: The total horizontal measurement of the area you want to cover with shiplap (in feet).
- Board Length: The full length of one shiplap board (in feet).
- Exposed Board Height: The visible height of a single shiplap board once installed (input in inches, converted to feet for calculation).
- Waste Percentage: An additional percentage (e.g., 10% or 0.10) to account for cuts, mistakes, and damaged boards.
