Radar Doppler Effect / Shift Frequency Calculator

Calculate Radar Doppler Shift

In Hertz (Hz)
In meters per second (m/s). Leave empty if calculating velocity.
In Hertz (Hz). Leave empty if calculating shift.

Note: Please provide the Emitted Frequency and one of either Relative Velocity or Frequency Shift. Leave the field you want to calculate empty.

Explore the fascinating physics behind radar with our Radar Doppler Effect Calculator. Accurately determine the shift in frequency, wavelength, or the velocity of a moving object using radar principles. Understand how a change in observed frequency reveals motion, crucial for applications from weather forecasting to speed detection. Get instant, reliable results.

Formula:

The Doppler Effect for radar (electromagnetic waves reflecting off a moving target) is given by:

  • Frequency Shift (Δf): Δf = (2 × f × v) / c
  • Relative Velocity (v): v = (Δf × c) / (2 × f)

Where:

  • Δf = Doppler frequency shift (Hz)
  • f = Emitted radar frequency (Hz)
  • v = Relative velocity between radar and target (m/s). For this calculator, v is treated as speed (magnitude).
  • c = Speed of light in vacuum (approximately 299,792,458 m/s)

This calculator allows you to solve for Δf or v, given the other variables.
