Use our free Pulmonary Vascular Resistance Index (PVRI) calculator to quickly determine PVRI and PVR from mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP), pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), cardiac output (CO), and body surface area (BSA). This tool is essential for assessing pulmonary hypertension and other cardiac conditions.
Formula:
The Pulmonary Vascular Resistance (PVR) and Pulmonary Vascular Resistance Index (PVRI) are calculated using the following formulas:
- Pulmonary Vascular Resistance (PVR):
PVR = ((mPAP - PCWP) / CO) × 80
Where:- mPAP = Mean Pulmonary Artery Pressure (mmHg)
- PCWP = Pulmonary Capillary Wedge Pressure (mmHg)
- CO = Cardiac Output (L/min)
- 80 = Conversion factor (for Dynes·s·cm⁻⁵)
- Pulmonary Vascular Resistance Index (PVRI):
PVRI = PVR / BSA
Where:- PVR = Pulmonary Vascular Resistance (Dynes·s·cm⁻⁵)
- BSA = Body Surface Area (m²)
