Maintaining a healthy swimming pool requires regular shocking to eliminate contaminants and algae. Our Pool Shock Calculator helps you determine the exact amount of chlorine shock (Cal-Hypo, Dichlor, or Liquid Chlorine) needed based on your pool's volume and desired free chlorine levels, ensuring crystal clear and safe water.
Formula:
To calculate the required shock amount, we first determine the target Free Chlorine (FC) increase: PPMincrease = Desired FC - Current FC.
Then, the shock amount is calculated using:
Shock Amount = (Pool Volume / 10,000) × PPMincrease × Factor
Where:
- Pool Volume: Your pool's volume in gallons.
- Current FC: Current Free Chlorine level in ppm.
- Desired FC: Target Free Chlorine level in ppm (e.g., 10-20 ppm for shocking).
- Factor: Varies by shock type for a 1 ppm increase per 10,000 gallons:
- Cal-Hypo (68%): ~0.15 lbs
- Dichlor (56%): ~0.16 lbs
- Liquid Chlorine (10%): ~0.1 gallons (12.8 fl oz)
