Discover the mean piston speed of your engine using our free online calculator. Accurately determine how stroke and RPM influence piston velocity, a critical factor for engine design, performance, and longevity. This tool is essential for automotive enthusiasts, engineers, and mechanics.
Formula:
The mean piston speed (MPS) is calculated using the following formulas:
- Mean Piston Speed (FPM) = (2 × Stroke (inches) × RPM) ÷ 12
- Mean Piston Speed (m/s) = (2 × Stroke (mm) × RPM) ÷ 60,000
Where:
- Stroke: The distance the piston travels in one direction (usually measured in inches or millimeters).
- RPM: Revolutions Per Minute of the crankshaft.
