Understand eligibility factors like your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) or Student Aid Index (SAI), Cost of Attendance (COA), and enrollment status to plan your finances effectively.

Formula:

The Pell Grant award is an estimate based on key financial factors:

  • Expected Family Contribution (EFC) / Student Aid Index (SAI): From your FAFSA.
  • Cost of Attendance (COA): Your school's total cost.
  • Enrollment Status: Full-time, three-quarter, half-time, or less.
  • Maximum Pell Grant: Federally determined (e.g., $7,395 for 2023-2024 & 2024-2025).

Your estimated Pell Grant is generally the lesser of (COA - EFC/SAI) or the Maximum Annual Pell Grant, prorated by your enrollment status. If your EFC/SAI is equal to or greater than your COA, you are likely not eligible.
