Understanding the ELO Rating Formula
The ELO rating system, widely used in competitive games like League of Legends, determines skill levels. Your new rating is calculated based on your current rating, your opponent's rating, the K-factor, and the match outcome.
Expected Score Calculation (Ea):
Ea = 1 / (1 + 10(Rb - Ra) / 400)
New Rating Calculation (R'a):
R'a = Ra + K * (Sa - Ea)
Formula Variables Explained:
- Ra: Your Current ELO Rating
- Rb: Opponent's (or average team's) Current ELO Rating
- K: The K-factor, representing the maximum possible rating change in a single game (e.g., 25-50 for LoL players)
- Sa: Your Actual Score in the match (1 for a win, 0 for a loss)
- Ea: Your Expected Score, representing the probability of you winning the match based on ratings
- R'a: Your New ELO Rating after the match
