Kt/V Calculator: Assess Dialysis Adequacy and Efficiency

Calculate Your Kt/V Value

Enter the BUN level measured before the dialysis session.
Enter the BUN level measured immediately after the dialysis session.
Enter the total duration of the dialysis session in hours.

Use our free Kt/V Calculator to quickly assess the adequacy of hemodialysis treatment. By inputting pre and post-dialysis blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels and session length, you can understand dialysis efficiency and monitor kidney health for patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

Formula:

The Kt/V value is calculated using the Daugirdas formula (second generation), a widely accepted method for assessing dialysis adequacy:

Kt/V = -ln(R - 0.008 × t) + (0.04 × t)

  • R = Post-dialysis BUN ÷ Pre-dialysis BUN (Ratio)
  • t = Dialysis Session Length (hours)
  • Kt/V = Dialysis Adequacy (dimensionless)

Note: ln refers to the natural logarithm. Higher Kt/V values generally indicate more adequate dialysis.
