Use our free Kt/V Calculator to quickly assess the adequacy of hemodialysis treatment. By inputting pre and post-dialysis blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels and session length, you can understand dialysis efficiency and monitor kidney health for patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
Formula:
The Kt/V value is calculated using the Daugirdas formula (second generation), a widely accepted method for assessing dialysis adequacy:
Kt/V = -ln(R - 0.008 × t) + (0.04 × t)
- R = Post-dialysis BUN ÷ Pre-dialysis BUN (Ratio)
- t = Dialysis Session Length (hours)
- Kt/V = Dialysis Adequacy (dimensionless)
Note: ln refers to the natural logarithm. Higher Kt/V values generally indicate more adequate dialysis.
