Ensure your electrical installations are safe and compliant with our Junction Box Sizing Calculator. This tool helps you accurately determine the minimum required volume for any junction or electrical box, adhering to NEC Article 314.16(B) guidelines. Prevent overcrowding and ensure proper wire fill for residential and commercial projects.
Formula:
The Junction Box Sizing Calculator uses the allowances specified in NEC Article 314.16(B) Box Fill Calculations. Each type of conductor, device, or fitting contributes a specific volume based on the wire gauge.
- Current-Carrying Conductors (Hot & Neutral): Each conductor counts for its specified volume allowance.
- Grounding Conductors: All grounding conductors together count as one conductor volume based on the largest grounding conductor in the box.
- Devices (Switches/Receptacles): Each single-gang device counts as two conductor volumes based on the largest conductor connected to it.
- Internal Clamps: Each internal cable clamp counts as one conductor volume based on the largest conductor in the box.
- Support Fittings (Hickeys/Studs): Each support fitting counts as one conductor volume based on the largest conductor in the box.
