Formula:
The Harris Benedict Equation estimates your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), the calories your body burns at rest. This BMR is then multiplied by an activity factor to determine your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).
Harris Benedict Formula:
For Men: BMR = 66.5 + (13.75 × weight in kg) + (5.003 × height in cm) - (6.75 × age in years)
For Women: BMR = 655.1 + (9.563 × weight in kg) + (1.850 × height in cm) - (4.676 × age in years)
Activity Level Factors:
- Sedentary: BMR × 1.2 (little or no exercise)
- Lightly Active: BMR × 1.375 (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week)
- Moderately Active: BMR × 1.55 (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week)
- Very Active: BMR × 1.725 (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week)
- Extremely Active: BMR × 1.9 (very hard exercise/physical job/training twice a day)
