Fresnel Zone Clearance Calculator for Optimal Radio Links

Calculate Your Fresnel Zone Clearance

km
Total distance between transmitter and receiver.
Operating frequency of the wireless link.
%
Typically 60% for basic clearance, up to 80% for critical links.

Precisely calculate the Fresnel Zone radius and critical clearance requirements for your wireless communication links. Our Fresnel Zone Clearance Calculator ensures reliable line of sight, preventing signal degradation from obstructions and guaranteeing robust network performance. Essential for microwave, Wi-Fi, and point-to-point radio planning.

Formula:

First Fresnel Zone Radius Formula

The radius of the first Fresnel Zone (R) at the midpoint of a wireless link is calculated using the following formula:

R = 17.32 × √ (D / F)

  • R: First Fresnel Zone Radius in meters (at the midpoint).
  • D: Total Path Length in kilometers.
  • F: Frequency in Gigahertz.

For optimal signal strength and reliability, it's recommended to maintain at least 60% (or ideally 80%) of the first Fresnel Zone clear of obstructions. Our calculator determines this recommended clearance based on your specified percentage.
