Understanding the Crosstalk Calculation

The calculator estimates the Near-End Crosstalk (NEXT) voltage using a simplified model based on capacitive and inductive coupling:

VNEXT = ½ × ( (Ccoupling × Z0) + (Lcoupling / Z0) ) × (Lcoupled / Trise) × Vsignal

  • VNEXT: Estimated Near-End Crosstalk Voltage (Volts)
  • Ccoupling: Coupling Capacitance per unit length (Farads/inch)
  • Lcoupling: Coupling Inductance per unit length (Henries/inch)
  • Z0: Characteristic Impedance of the victim line (Ohms)
  • Lcoupled: Length of the coupled section (inches)
  • Trise: Signal Rise Time (seconds)
  • Vsignal: Peak Signal Voltage (Volts)
