Use our **Cross Price Elasticity Calculator** to quickly determine the relationship between two goods. Understand if products are **substitutes**, **complements**, or **unrelated** based on changes in price and demand. Essential for pricing strategies, market analysis, and economic forecasting in a competitive landscape.

Formula:

Cross Price Elasticity (CPE) Formula

The Cross Price Elasticity of Demand (CPE) measures the responsiveness of the quantity demanded for one good (Good X) to a change in the price of another good (Good Y). The formula is:

CPE = (% Change in Quantity Demanded of Good X) / (% Change in Price of Good Y)

Which can be expanded using the midpoint method for arc elasticity to:

CPE = [(Qd2 - Qd1) / ((Qd2 + Qd1) / 2)] / [(Py2 - Py1) / ((Py2 + Py1) / 2)]

Where:

  • Qd1: Initial Quantity Demanded of Good X
  • Qd2: New Quantity Demanded of Good X
  • Py1: Initial Price of Good Y
  • Py2: New Price of Good Y
