Coil Inductance Calculator

Calculate Your Coil Inductance

Quickly determine the inductance of a coil, whether it's an air core, ferrite core, or solenoid. Our free online Coil Inductance Calculator helps engineers and hobbyists design inductors by factoring in turns, core material, and coil geometry, making complex calculations simple and efficient for your electronic projects.

Coil Inductance Formula

The inductance (L) of a solenoid coil can be calculated using the following formula:

L = (μ ⋅ N² ⋅ A) / l

  • L = Inductance (Henries)
  • μ = Magnetic permeability of the core material (H/m), where μ = μ₀ ⋅ μᵣ
  • μ₀ = Permeability of free space (4π × 10⁻⁷ H/m)
  • μᵣ = Relative permeability of the core material (dimensionless)
  • N = Number of turns in the coil
  • A = Cross-sectional area of the coil (m²), where A = π ⋅ (D/2)²
  • D = Coil Diameter (m)
  • l = Length of the coil (m)
