Understand the vital relationship between your Closing Capacity (CC) and Total Lung Volume Capacity (TLC). Our user-friendly online calculator helps you estimate your TLC and provides crucial insights into respiratory function, aiding in the assessment of lung health and potential early airway changes. Easily calculate these key pulmonary metrics today!

Formula:

The calculation uses the following standard formulas for lung volumes:

  • Functional Residual Capacity (FRC) = Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV) + Residual Volume (RV)
  • Total Lung Capacity (TLC) = Inspiratory Capacity (IC) + Functional Residual Capacity (FRC)
  • Alternatively: TLC = IC + ERV + RV
  • We also provide the Closing Capacity to Total Lung Capacity Ratio = (CC ÷ TLC) × 100%

Where:

  • IC = Inspiratory Capacity (Liters)
  • ERV = Expiratory Reserve Volume (Liters)
  • RV = Residual Volume (Liters)
  • CC = Closing Capacity (Liters)
  • FRC = Functional Residual Capacity (Liters)
  • TLC = Total Lung Capacity (Liters)
