Formula:
The Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) is a weighted index that takes into account the number and seriousness of 17 specific comorbid diseases. Each condition is assigned a score (weight) of 1, 2, 3, or 6, based on its association with 10-year mortality. These individual scores are summed to yield a total CCI score. A higher score indicates a greater burden of comorbidity and a higher predicted mortality.
- Myocardial infarction: 1 point
- Congestive heart failure: 1 point
- Peripheral vascular disease: 1 point
- Cerebrovascular disease: 1 point
- Dementia: 1 point
- Chronic pulmonary disease: 1 point
- Connective tissue disease/Rheumatic disease: 1 point
- Peptic ulcer disease: 1 point
- Mild liver disease: 1 point
- Diabetes without chronic complications: 1 point
