Accurately calculate intravenous fluid resuscitation requirements for adult and pediatric burn and trauma patients using the widely accepted Parkland Formula. This tool supports medical professionals in critical care, emergency medicine, and pre-hospital settings to manage fluid therapy effectively and improve patient outcomes.
Formula:
The Parkland Formula (for Adults) is used to calculate the total intravenous fluid required for burn patients over the first 24 hours post-burn:
Total Fluid (ml) = 4 ml × Body Weight (kg) × %TBSA Burn
- Half of the calculated total fluid is administered during the first 8 hours post-burn.
- The remaining half is administered over the subsequent 16 hours.
For pediatric patients, maintenance fluids (e.g., D5 1/4 NS at 4-2-1 rule) are often added to the Parkland formula calculation.
