Formula:

The boiling point of water decreases as altitude increases due to lower atmospheric pressure. A common empirical approximation states that the boiling point decreases by approximately 0.5°C for every 150 meters (or 0.9°F for every 500 feet) increase in elevation above sea level.

This calculator applies these empirical relationships:

  • Boiling Point (°C) = 100 - (Altitudem / 150 × 0.5)
  • Boiling Point (°F) = 212 - (Altitudeft / 500 × 0.9)

Where Altitudem is the altitude in meters and Altitudeft is the altitude in feet.
