Discover the Basic Proportionality Theorem (BPT), also known as Thales Theorem, with our interactive calculator. Easily verify proportional segments in a triangle when a line parallel to one side intersects the other two sides. Understand its proof and practical applications in geometry effortlessly.
Formula:
The Basic Proportionality Theorem (BPT), or Thales Theorem, states that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, then the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
In triangle ABC, if DE is parallel to BC (where D is on AB and E is on AC), then the theorem states:AD/DB = AE/EC
Where:
- AD: Length of segment AD on side AB
- DB: Length of segment DB on side AB
- AE: Length of segment AE on side AC
- EC: Length of segment EC on side AC
