The BASDAI Score Calculator is an essential tool for individuals and clinicians to assess disease activity in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and axial spondyloarthritis (AxSpA). This index evaluates symptoms like fatigue, spinal pain, peripheral joint pain, enthesitis, and morning stiffness severity and duration, providing a quick, patient-reported measure for monitoring disease progression and treatment effectiveness.
Formula:
The Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) is calculated using six questions, each rated by the patient on a 0-10 scale (0 = no problem, 10 = worst problem imaginable).
The formula is as follows:
BASDAI = ( (Q1 + Q2 + Q3 + Q4) + ((Q5 + Q6) / 2) ) / 5
Where:
- Q1: Overall level of fatigue/tiredness.
- Q2: Overall level of AS neck, back, or hip pain.
- Q3: Overall level of pain/swelling in other joints (not neck, back, hips).
- Q4: Overall level of discomfort from any areas tender to touch or pressure (enthesitis).
- Q5: Overall level of morning stiffness severity.
- Q6: Overall level of morning stiffness duration.
