Use -> for the arrow. Capitalize element symbols (e.g., H, O, Fe, Cl).

Our Balancing Chemical Equations Calculator helps you quickly solve and balance chemical reactions according to the Law of Conservation of Mass. Input your unbalanced equation, and instantly get the correct stoichiometric coefficients. Perfect for homework, lab work, or studying chemistry fundamentals. Achieve perfect stoichiometry every time!

Formula:

Balancing chemical equations is based on the Law of Conservation of Mass, which states that matter cannot be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction. Therefore, the number of atoms for each element must be equal on both sides of the equation (reactants and products).

For an unbalanced equation like:
H₂ + O₂ → H₂O

The goal is to find coefficients (e.g., a, b, c) such that:
aH₂ + bO₂ → cH₂O

The calculator identifies these coefficients to ensure the total number of H atoms on the left (2a) equals H atoms on the right (2c), and O atoms on the left (2b) equals O atoms on the right (c).
