Formula:
Asphalt Tonnage = (Area × (Thickness ÷ 12) × Density) ÷ 2000
- Area: Surface area to be paved (in square feet).
- Thickness: Desired compacted asphalt thickness (in inches).
- Density: Density of the compacted asphalt (commonly 140-150 lbs/cu ft, default 145 lbs/cu ft).
- 2000: Conversion factor from pounds to short tons (1 ton = 2000 lbs).
