Calculating Safety Distance for AOPD according to ISO 13855

The minimum distance of a stop-activating protective device from the nearest danger point of operation on the machine must be calculated with the following formula:

The following calculation formula applies for applications of optoelectronic protective devices with approach direction of body parts in an angle of 30° to 90° to the protective field level.

Formula:

Ds = Hs x (Ts + Tc + Tr + Tbm) + Dpf

Where,
Hs is Hand speed,
Ts is Stopping time,
Tc is Response time of the machine control system,
Tr is Response time of the protective device,
Tbm is Additional response time for the brake wear and tear,
Dpf is Penetration factor,
Ds is The minimum safety distance
