Use our AHI Calculator to determine the severity of sleep apnea based on your Apnea-Hypopnea Index. Understand if your results indicate mild, moderate, or severe sleep-disordered breathing. Essential for interpreting sleep study data quickly and accurately.
Formula:
The Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) is calculated by dividing the total number of apneas and hypopneas by the total sleep time in hours.
Formula:
AHI = (Total Apneas + Total Hypopneas) / Total Sleep Time (hours)
Where:
- AHI: Apnea-Hypopnea Index (events per hour of sleep)
- Total Apneas: The number of recorded episodes of complete or near-complete cessation of airflow during sleep.
- Total Hypopneas: The number of recorded episodes of significant reduction (partial blockage) in airflow during sleep.
- Total Sleep Time: The total duration, in hours, that an individual was asleep during a sleep study (polysomnography).
