Air Conditioner (AC) Cooling Capacity Calculator

Calculate Your AC Cooling Capacity

Please enter room length.
Please enter room width.
Average ceiling height is 8ft.
Estimate average number of people in the room.
Windows add to heat gain.
Please select sun exposure.
Please select insulation quality.

Calculate the ideal AC cooling capacity (BTU & Tonnage) for your room. Our tool considers room size, windows, sun exposure, and insulation to help you find the perfect air conditioner, ensuring efficient and comfortable cooling.

Formula:

BTU = (Room Area (sq ft) × Base Factor) + (People × 600) + (Windows × 1000) × Sun Exposure Factor × Insulation Factor
Tons = BTU / 12,000

Where:

  • BTU: British Thermal Units, the cooling power.
  • Room Area (sq ft): Length × Width.
  • Base Factor: Initial BTU per square foot, adjusted by ceiling height.
  • People: Each person adds approximate heat load.
  • Windows: Each window adds approximate heat load.
  • Sun Exposure Factor: Multiplier based on sunlight.
  • Insulation Factor: Multiplier based on insulation quality.
