The Shape factor (also know as view factor), refers to a value that is affected by an object's shape but is independent of its dimensions. It is a purely geometric quantity and is independent of the surface properties and temperature and It indicates how much more load or torque can be carried by the structural shape than by the same mass of material with a square cross section.
