The Kozeny Carman equation (or Carman Kozeny equation) is a equation used in fluid dynamics to calculate pressure drop, clean bed head loss of solids.

Formula:

( Δp ⁄ L ) = (180μ⁄ Φs2 × Dp2) × [(1 - ε)2 / ε3] × υs

where,
μ - is the viscosity of the fluid;
Φs - is the sphericity of the particles in the packed bed;
Dp - is the diameter of the related spherical particle;
ε - is the porosity of the bed;
υs - is the superficial or empty-tower velocity;
Δp - is the pressure drop;
L - is the total height of the bed;
