Helmholtz Free Energy Calculator

Posted by Dinesh on

This calculator calculates the helmholtz free energy using internal energy of the system, absolute temperature, entropy of the system values.

The Helmholtz free energy is a thermodynamic potential that measures the useful work obtainable from a closed thermodynamic system at a constant temperature and volume (isothermal, isochoric). The negative of the change in the Helmholtz energy during a process is equal to the maximum amount of work that the system can perform in a thermodynamic process in which volume is held constant.

Helmholtz Free Energy Calculation

Formula:

F ≡ U - T × S

Where,

F is the Helmholtz free energy

U is the internal energy of the system

T is the absolute temperature of the surroundings, modelled as a heat bath

S is the entropy of the system
